A week old

Sam is officially a week old. It happens so fast... I always tell my photography clients with newborns to take pictures everyday for the first 10-14 days because little ones change A LOT during that time. I have found it very challenging to actually take pictures every day but so far I'm getting at least one. Whoo-hoo! Here are pics from the past couple days, including Sam's very first bath at home. Little dude is still doing great. He and I had an amazing night of sleep last night with no screaming/crying (only minor quiet fussing). Sam's 1 week pediatrician appointment was perfect; he's gained twice the weight expected so... we're good there! ;)

I found this toy cup in the front pocket of the diaper bag. I believe a certain big sister felt her baby brother might need it....

Me: Sam, are you ready for your  first bath?
Sam: *pooooooooooop*

Save me Daddy!

Yep, still crying

Swaddled and warm after the bath

Dad, enough already

Snapshots

I want to write a long post about how things are going. I'm not sure if I'll get a chance so I want to make sure I write what's most important: life is so enjoyable right now. Sound odd for life with a newborn? with 2 other kids already? At one point early on in my pregnancy with little Sam, I felt as if the addition of this child to our family would bring peace. Colin thought I was crazy. :) And yet here we are; the c-section and hospital stay went perfectly, both Will and Elana are particularly happy and receptive towards baby Sam, I am loving every second of mothering a newborn, Colin has all of us under control and isn't stressed, and Sam is is an absolute sweetie. Somehow life IS more peaceful with this little one. I feel like our family has been "balanced" by this baby and I am grateful to God that He has been gracious and led us into this phase of life.

I haven't gotten to all of the pictures but here's what I have so far:

A Breeched Whale

Like what I did with that? You could either refer to my baby as the whale... or myself. :) I had my pre-op appointment earlier this afternoon and asked the doc to check me for progress--which there was absolutely none. That's for the best, and probably to be expected for a baby that is head up with feet up too (nothing to put pressure down low).  A quick ultrasound showed Baby Sam is still breech. Friday morning is approaching - perhaps not as quickly as I'd hoped - but I am so close I can taste it!  Today I was at the hospital with my dear friend Alison who is in labor with her second. The hospital had a fire a few days ago and while it was on a totally different level, it apparently flooded Labor and Delivery (causing some labor patients to be diverted to other hospitals). I found out that my c-section will still take place at the hospital as planned but they have to use the main operating room (instead of the L&D OR) so there is potential for delays in addition to being moved between different floors. Anyways, Friday is coming and it's pretty cool that Alison and I will be at the same place, each with our own new baby boys! :)

Early Voting

This morning Colin and I voted! I was worried we'd have problems because our licenses still don't have our most current address but we took other forms of documentation that were supposed to be acceptable and it was a breeze! There was no waiting and this spot was right off the loop downtown so no long walking for me. :)
